How to Choose a Wedding Photographer You Actually Feel Comfortable Around

So, you’re planning your big day, and after months of picking the perfect venue (barn weddings, I’m looking at you), finalising the guest list, and possibly debating whether your cousin’s new boyfriend really needs a seat at the table, it’s time to tackle one of the most important tasks, which is choosing your wedding photographer.

And not just any wedding photographer…you need one you actually feel comfortable with. Because, let’s be honest, who wants awkward, stiff photos when you can have real and proper you moments captured?

Your wedding photographer will be with you all day – from the excited, slightly chaotic “getting ready” moments in the morning to the final, wild dance-off at midnight (yes, I’ll be there snapping away when Uncle Bob starts breakdancing).

So, it’s important to pick someone who not only makes you feel at ease but who you might even look forward to hanging out with on your wedding day. That’s where I come in as your Cheshire based wedding photographer

I’m here to hold your hand through it all, figuratively and, if necessary, literally. I’ll make sure your day runs as smoothly and joyfully as possible.

Let’s dive into how to choose a wedding photographer you actually feel comfortable around.

How to Choose a Wedding Photographer

If you’re someone who’s more “have a laugh with friends” and less “pose like a supermodel”, then comfort is absolutely key.

If you want to know how to choose a wedding photographer, you need to find a photographer you can trust. Someone you can laugh with, and someone you’re not afraid to ugly cry in front of (those vows can be a real tearjerker). That’s where a strong emotional connection and a warm, friendly personality come into play.

Comfort goes hand in hand with trust. When you feel at ease with your photographer, you’ll be more yourself, whether that’s laughing, crying, dancing, or doing a spontaneous piggyback race across the field. This is what leads to those real, emotional moments that you’ll want to look back on for years to come.

Forget forced poses…it’s the in-between moments that tell your story best!

And let’s talk about the details that matter. While you’re enjoying your rustic barn venue, drinking prosecco with your best mates, I’ll be capturing all those little things you spent hours perfecting.

I know how much thought goes into creating your day, and I want to make sure you have photographs that reflect every ounce of love you poured into it.

But beyond the photos themselves, comfort is what makes the whole process stress-free. Your photographer should feel like more than just a supplier ticking off a checklist. I like to think of myself as an extra bridesmaid (the one with a camera), a dress fluffer, a buttonhole fixer, a calming presence when nerves kick in, and yes, someone who reminds you to drink water!

Knowing how to choose a wedding photographer is realising that it’s not just about the photos, but about creating an experience where you feel cared for, supported, and celebrated. So choosing someone who can do that is so important.

When you’re comfortable, the magic happens naturally. That’s how we get those “that’s so us” moments which are the photos that genuinely reflect who you are as a couple. Whether you’re festival-goers who want to rave the night away or laid-back romantics planning a countryside celebration, my job is to adapt to your vibe, so your photos feel unique to you.

Now, you might be wondering, “This all sounds lovely, but why you?” Well, let me tell you a little about myself and why I think we’d be a perfect match.

I work primarily with natural light, but I also know it’s not always soft and dreamy, especially on bright, sunny days when it can create harsh shadows. That’s where I get creative. I love working with those pockets of light, particularly in barns where it peeks through gaps in the steel roof, creating something a bit more atmospheric and intentional. It’s about using the light as it is and turning it into something beautiful, rather than forcing it to behave.

I focus on capturing the emotional, candid moments rather than overly posed shots, and I’m all about celebrating the uniqueness of each couple I work with.

But more than that, I bring my bubbly, friendly personality to the table. I’m someone who genuinely gets excited about your day – I mean, it’s not uncommon for me to squeal when I see your dress for the first time or get teary-eyed during the first dance. I’m warm, empathetic, and just the right amount of fun (I promise I won’t out-dance you at your own reception… okay, maybe just a little).

I also pride myself on being adaptable – my Gemini nature really comes in handy here! Whether you need someone to calm your pre-ceremony nerves or join in on a bit of banter with the bridal party, I’ll adjust to whatever energy you need on the day.

Oh, and if you’re planning a festival-style wedding with lots of music and dancing, I’ll feel right at home – I’m a big festival attendee myself and absolutely love that kind of vibe.

If you want to know how to choose a wedding photographer then it’s important that you know that friendship is really important. As a photographer, it is my goal to build a genuine friendship with you before the big day. By getting to know you and your partner, I can tailor the experience to make sure you’re completely comfortable in front of the camera.

It’s not just about showing up and taking photos. It’s about creating an environment where you can fully enjoy the moment and let your love shine through.

When all is said and done, I want you to look back at your wedding photos and think, “Wow, that’s so us.” Because those are the moments that matter.
